What is BMR?

Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the number of calories your body burns while at rest. It represents the minimum amount of energy needed to keep your body functioning, including breathing and keeping your heart beating.

BMR Formula (Harris-Benedict Equation):

  • For men: BMR = 88.362 + (13.397 × weight in kg) + (4.799 × height in cm) - (5.677 × age in years)
  • For women: BMR = 447.593 + (9.247 × weight in kg) + (3.098 × height in cm) - (4.330 × age in years)

Knowing your BMR helps in setting realistic fitness, diet, or weight management goals by providing a baseline for your daily caloric needs.

      BMR vs TDEE

While BMR represents the calories your body burns at rest, Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) includes the calories burned through daily activities and exercise. Your actual daily caloric needs are based on your TDEE, which we calculate using your activity level.
